Well people I was looking for an alternative to the catch cans that are available for the XB's so I though I might see if I could make one.

This is what I came up with.

First I bought an aluminum drink bottle on flea bay for about $6.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010004.jpg

A couple (coz they were cheap) of breather filter thingys and a RYCO BSPT fitting.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010003.jpg

The parts list so far consists of this.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010001.jpg

I started by cutting the bottle down to a suitable length.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010009.jpg

With my cheap ass Dremel style tool and a cutting blade.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010008.jpg

The bottle top has an internal thread.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010006.jpg

Using the RYCO fitting I attached one of the breathers.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010007.jpg

Then I started to polish the ally up first using some emery tape then some 1200 wet and dry paper and finally some Autosol metal polish. The final finish is much shinier than in the picture.

This is what it looks like so far with a couple of 'P' clamps that will eventually be used to mount it.http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr354/graveldick/P1010012.jpg

I still have to somehow attach a fitting to the side of the can for the hose and make some sort of base to screw the radiator drain bung into. (radiator bung shown in the third picture).

I was originally looking for a suitable sized plastic or poly fitting to use as a base but have now decided to go for a machined alloy base. (If anyone has a chunk of aluminum and a lathe please PM me  ) Apart from that I just have to do a bit more polishing and make an aluminum mounting bracket off the back of the oil cooler then see how it looks.

It's probably not everyones cup of tea but it should do the trick and for less than $50 bucks so far I can't complain.

**If anyone has the capability to machine a base for me please let me know**

Cheers GD

Thanx LM, that's great info. Maybe one with a smaller diameter would look less obtrusive than the one I used.

How about this  The only down side is the rather large mouth.

Yeah they could work too. Not sure how you would mount the filter but nuthin a Dremel and a few bitz n pieces and imagination can't fix.:happi:

Might be big enough to just jam the base of the filter right in there, not the screw bit the while thing :Eyebrows:
or realistically just tap two holes in the lid one fer the hose from the rocker boxes that goes to the bottom of the can and one fer the oil filter, throw some stainless packing material in there to help it condense n bob's yer uncle.

That's a good point about tapping two lines into the cap. I might even do that myself. Use two brass fittings and run a remote filter. Cheers Reight.
