Hey guys,
As dates and travel routes are nutted out and set in stone, we start to realise that gear is needed... and the hunt begins!
Now for Muster 08, alot of people were throwing info back and forth for travel bags and bike luggage. I have had an idea, and want to share with the Buellers.
Early this year I found a company called Chase Harper.
http://www.chaseharper.com/SiteMap/SiteMap.htm
They have a huge range and there gear carries a life time warranty. I purchased a tail bag for Manx and Myself, and was more than impressed.
Now with Muster 09 coming, I realise that I now need larger travel gear for me and Manx. When I spoke to the company earlier, they said that for large orders, they may be able to look at discounts (about 10%). Now I know the $ isnt as strong at the moment, but if people are interested, then have a look through their gear and get back to me.
I will be ordering by end of March. But if interested, then can look at ordering more so people can get a discount.

Great idea/tip, mate! Will have a look see & let ya know, but will ordering by end o' march allow enough time? A discounted bulk order may mean posting in bulk - to one address, (yours?) & then re-sending off to the individuals. May need ordering by mid march?

I will chase that up matty. When I spoke last, the discount was off product... they couldnlt touch the shipping as such.
BUT if it has to come to one address, then we will make it a bit earlier.
But definately let me know!

oK, have had a look, seems they make some pretty well thought out stuff...
I reckon you could put me down for 2 items, but 1stly, how do the aftermarket tank-bags fit? Either magnetic or strap? I take it ya have ta glue a couple of lumps of steel on the inside of the airbox for the magnetic to work? :dum: Any thoughts on how they may fit? I was looking at their 650 sportbike tankbag.
Was also liking the bruiser barrel bag in leather (10301LR) to put me leather... err... wallet in... :errr: hehe... Im serious, i want 1 o' them ones...
Thanks, Chaos. Before you order i shall wire some $$.

Cool Matty,
Don't send any dosh yet. Im pretty sure that there strap mounts are pretty universal... Most of the bags have option of strap OR magnetic. But once we get an idea of people wanting stuff, will email the Lass Im in contact with and she can answer any q's/ Should be easy with the Buell as they can walk down the road and fit one!
I'm looking at:
http://www.chaseharper.com/TankBags/TankBags.htm?al=650&fr=0650.htm&
(mainly for long tours... and has the hard detachable bottom for tools)
and
http://www.chaseharper.com/TailTrunks/TailTrunks.htm?al=405350&fr=405350.htm&
(I like having the weight behind instead of in front)
Ill email them this weekend mate!

Hey Chaos, that gear looks good. Any chance of a compatibility list for the tank bags on a fuel frame Buell?

Here is a few pics of my XB all kitted out ready for my trip to BM'09. I thought I'd just see how everything fits. Prolly overkill but I'm not sure just how much space I need just yet so I stuck everything on and went for a ride. It seems quite comfortable. The swag makes a good back rest and I can put her on auto pilot wile I have a sleep on the tank bag. :hehe:

Don't come inta NSW like that, the scalies'll get yer, fer overloaded on the rear axle.
:hahaha:
all jokes aside , you do look to have a lot of weight up high, so the top case might have to go. that pack on the back of the swag would need to be well strapped too. if ya can lose the swag, maybe replace with something like this: http://www.wildearth.com.au/vaude-gram-solo-bivi-ultralight-tent-p-700.html. and this: http://www.wildearth.com.au/vango-26°c-nitestar-performance-sleeping-p-197.html Much smaller and lighter to carry. (be about 1/4 the size of yer swag)

Yeah I think I will do without the top bag to keep the height down a bit. I can get a lot in those saddle bags and rear pack. The rear pack is securely strapped to the ventura pack rack and the swag as fairly light just bulky. At this stage I can't warrant spending the dosh on alternatives to the swag. (Means less rum money for Muster )
Next step is to work out exactly what I need to pack (Then halve it) and pack it up properly go for a decent ride and see how she performs.

keep the heavy stuff low and in yer saddlebags. light bulky stufff can be up higher. if yer swag is light, put it behind the pack, keeping te weight as close to the centre of the bike as you can.
remember to try and leave some room to move around, nothing worse than being locked in one position with a numb bum.

Fark me GD - How long ya coming for :errr:
Like Lindsay said - if ya lose the swag it won't look near as bad.
Nobbie had a good one he brought to Muster 08 - it was only 1/8 the size of yours. I'll shout ya a rum :redeye:

I'll need to camp a couple of times between here and Jindebyne Wes. Tis a long way from WA to there.
I'm away for a total of 18 days Lazza. But yeah I'm revising my sleeping arrangements. Looking at a small tent and sleeping bag now. Rolls up much smaller than the swag. As I said I'm not sure how much space I need yet but I doubt I'll need the top bag. I'll make sure I don't need it. I'll be carrying a few litres of water and fuel just in case I get caught out across the
nullabor.
I'll post a couple more pics once I revise a bit.
Wheres ya wide load sign :hehe:
a coupla plastic bags will get you enough water out in the bush.
You can leave most of your crap at my place.

I hadn't thought of that. Bloody hell I'll hook on a trailer then.
I just had an idea. Instead of a swag. Sleeping bag, SI mattress and a silver tarp. Home made hootchie. That'll cut down the size.

Jesus christ mate, thats a bloody load. I can live out of two Ventura pack for a week. Inflatable mattress, get a 12v blower, and you can get those little tents now and a sleeping bag and other shit in one pack and cloths in the other. I think Lazza toured Tassie with the same setup.

It makes it very cushy and soaks up the bumps but does little for the handling.

Got me a set of genuine Buell bags for $59US off ebay.
Purchased from US seller but shipped from Argentina.
Very pleased and should make light work of carrying gear for this trip I hope.
