I want to get a new brake disc cut and ground for my GS500e as a test. Does anyone in Qld know someone who does this? I would prefer Qld for postage, but if there is somewhere good I will go out of state.

No one locally does wash grinding, or knows anyone who does.

I have .dxf files of the disc and carrier. The disc needs to be 6mm bis360 CNC'ed then wash ground to 5mm, the carrier and buttins I will get done locally out of Al alloy.

Thanks.

James

I had some new discs made up for my K100RS, a few years back, by a mob in Melbourne called Planet Discs. They were cut from forged steel bar and "magnetic ground", then they milled some radial grooves in them. Was a pretty good job, but they were a tad heavier than the original stainless numbers. (If I'd had them drilled they would have been closer to the originals in weight, I guess) The plus was they worked better and offered a bit more feel.

Ring 'em and have a chat to 'em. (03) 9801 7067

Do you have any local places that do laser cutting ?
I made the discs for my motard conversion out of mild steel plate.I had them laser cut by a friend to my design and then I surface ground them at work to get them parallel and dead flat.
They have done about 20,000 k's now and don't show any signs of wear or do anything silly when you hit them hard.
You can also try Aussie Disc's in Melbourne, they are pretty popular for non genuine stuff.

How good is that?

A member puts a query up at 16:08, within two hours he's got 3 positive responses.

There is a mob I deal with at work here in WA that are based in QLD. They are called Metal Gear. We get all our disks and pads from them. Dunno if they could help or not but I thought I'd mention it. Their website is http://www.metalgear.com.au/index.asp

Got to agree with you Lindsay,it's not often you can get all positive responses on a bike forum instead of inflated opinions and ego's like some other bike forums.
Good work BDU members.

Well it is $500 for OEM and $320 for metal gear discs. MG comes with new pads.

Hmmm. Will have to get an MG one for now and see about getting mine made.

Wooloo: No one up here can do the parallel / flat grinding. If I send you the file and some money, are you able to cut, grind and mail it to me?

The laser cutting should be okay but you would be better off speaking to my friend who does it so the file thingy's are what he needs for his machine. As for the grinding what diameter are we talking ? I can do up to 240mm at work but could get larger diameter stuff done outside,I just need to word up the outside guy that it's a foriegner.
Also when you say "wash grinding" are you talking about radial surface grinding with coolant or your standard surface grinder running coolant ?
I did my ones on a standard grinder and they worked well,I'll put a couple of pic's up if you want to see the final thing.

Woolo,

They are 310mm dia. I would love to talk to your friend. I was told they needed to be wash ground flat and parallel, but don't know what that is exactly. Sound like surface grinding is fine.

Thanks.

Hi Woolo.

I ended up buying a metal gear disc for a ride on this weekend, but I am still keen to get one made if you feel like it.
